UK Port congestion

on 15 October 2021

BBC report that there is once again serious congestion at UK ports which is having a major effect on vessels arriving and discharging containers

Both Maersk Line and Evergreen Line have announced that their allocation of space at the Felixstowe Container yards is full and they are having to divert the empty units to Tilbury port.

For the time being and until such time as the port congestion eases, hauliers are introducing a Tilbury port diversion surcharge of GBP 300 per container should the empty container not be accepted at Felixstowe. Hopefully this is only short term and next week the situation will have passed.

That said, Tilbury port is fast filling up and both Maersk & Evergreen have implied that should it be necessary, empty containers could even be sent as far away as Hull, Immingham or even Teesport which, as our haulier has implied, will incur a £400 surcharge
